There is a lot of gold!

There is a lot of gold to be found yet!  While in Phoenix I connected with Tom Hubbard, a high school class mate.  He shared with me that he had been interested in prospecting and wanted to ask me about how to do it.  I shared some of my stories and pictures of gold with him.  (I feel it important to share gold fever when ever possible)!

I received permission from a property owner near Wickenberg Arizona to prospect for gold!  It worked out well on timing!  Tom, his wife Kathy and their daughter Annie were able to go help prospect!  I am always happy when there are eager volunteers!  First time volunteers often don’t suspect all of the shoveling involved!

We had a great time out in the wilderness of Arizona!  Tom and his family had a good time too.  We had nice picnics and enjoyed the weather.  They even wanted to go a second time!

Tom has had some health problems that seem to be all behind him now.  We took turns digging and he wore me out!  We didn’t find any course gold.  We found some curious silver colored, very heavy small particles.  We looked at them under magnification and they looked like silver marbles.  From talking to some of my net work it sounds like it may be platinum.  I like platinum….it does not rhyme with some of my sayings as well, but value may be better.  I am going to send in some samples!

The Hubbards are now prospectors!

Nice winter

I have been having a nice winter.  I have been enjoying the sun in Florida, North Carolina and Arizona.  I thought I would be able to do more writing while on the road, but I have been quite busy!  It seems like the days just get filled up!

I visited Cocoa Beach, Key West, Naples, Tampa and Raleigh NC in the east, then drove directly to Phoenix AZ.

I am looking at mining opportunities while on the road, mostly in Arizona.  I met a fellow in Prescott the other night that offers financing for large mining projects.

I am working with my consultant to get my water licenses for this coming season in the Yukon.  There are a lot of companies working on getting their operations going this season so it is slow going.

Key West!

One of the locals!

It is hard to believe I was up north at this time last year and it was 40 below zero!  I think it is going to take a while to get warmed back up from that!

Gold Rush 2011 season

I am pretty happy with the Gold Rush show so far!  It is certainly great entertainment for me!  Part of it is knowing the Hoffman’s and the others and seeing them at work and play.  I can identify with the problems and the high excitement that one experiences and the huge ups and downs that mining in the far north can give you!

I don’t know James Harness yet, but he seems like a good guy from what I have seen.  He was in town while I was at the the Hoffman’s mine this Summer so I didn’t get to speak with him.  Nothing was broken down right that minute, so he probably would have had time to talk!

I have not met Fred.  He is probably a good guy to stay clear of!  I was happy that he is the real bad guy on the show…not me!  Editing made me look kind of bad.  They of course don’t have time to show all of the work we all put into the preparation for the 2011 mining season.

I too can hardly wait until next Friday nights show!  I am very excited to see how much gold they find this season!  I hope they did well!  At least they are in a good place…the Klondike is gold country!

Gold Rush 2011 premier party

There was a huge turn out at the Gold Rush premier party!  I estimated over 500 people!  Todd rented a tent for overflow!  Some people were in costume.  I went as who else….klondikesteve….and the Gold Rush men went as them selves except for James Harness.  He made a fairly believable Dracula!

Good and evil are here played by my neighbors and good friends, Sherri and Richard Romero!

It was a good time, but there were so many people we really couldn’t hear the show!

October 28

Gold is coming back!  There goes the stock market…down thru support!

Todd told me by email, that I will be in episode “0” of Gold Rush, showing October 28, 2011.  The regular season starts in November.  I don’t think the zero really means anything.  Don’t blink or you might miss me!

What is gold doing?

The gold price has sure dropped a lot!  I guess it got really high really fast so it is to be expected for it to take a drop for a while.  I visualize it climbing on over $2000 by the first of the year!  Probably the stock market won’t be a happy place though.

It is getting pretty cold up north about now!  I am expecting Jack, Todd and the rest of the Gold Rush guys to be back in town anytime now.  I am really looking forward to seeing the new season of Gold Rush!  They have not told me when it will start showing yet!  I think maybe October 28!  Look for me!

What kind of fox is that?

Sheryl asked what kind of fox was that in the earlier post?  It does have interesting markings doesn’t it!  I’m thinking it is the confused kind, and may end up as a very nice coat, if it keeps walking through town!

Yes you may depend on me for answers that are no help!  Ha!

It was really a nice day out in the bush that day.  There were hardly any bugs either!  I didn’t even put repellant on!

I had a cat skinner working on assessment work on the hill top claims above the Klondike River.  It was August 18 – 2011.

Leaving Dawson tomorrow!

The other Klondike Steve!

Steve Nordick is the the Yukon legislator from Dawson.  We were talking about a mine near Dawson.

the fox that owns the town

I saw this fox walking down the sidewalk!

I was out in the bush quite a bit but had to come to town to see a fox!

Some visitors to Bonanza Creek!

These successful contractors are considering starting their own gold mines.  They brought their families with them across Canada to the gold fields of Dawson.  I had a great time with them.  They were kind enough to drive me around and I introduced them to some other miners and showed them around the creeks.  I hope to see them back next year!

Just like me....real fungi.....fun guy!

I am going to my 40 year high school class reunion today!  I can’t be that old!!!???

Maybe I will get some pictures to post while I am up north!
